Lemuel A. Garrison Papers, 1828, 1914-2008, (bulk 1960-1979).

The collection contains articles, book drafts, booklets, brochures, bulletins, correspondence, maps, memoirs, newsletters, notes, pamphlets, photographs, programs, reports, slides and speeches relating to Garrison's employment with the National Park Service. Material can be found on Big Bend National Park, the Grand Canyon National Park, Hopewell Village National Historic Site, Yellowstone National Park and Yosemite National Park. Also included are materials relating to Garrison's book, "The Making of a Ranger: Forty Years with the National Park Service." In addition, the personal papers of his wife, Inger Garrison, can be found in the collection and cover such interests as the arts, culture, Native Americans, her consulting work with the National Park Service, as well as a chapter she wrote for "Interpreting the Environment." Correspondence with and speeches by George B. Hartzog, Jr. are filed in this collection. Correspondence with Horace M. Albright, co-founder and second Director of the National Park Service, can be found here as well.
